New ID Verification Rules for Company Directors Coming into Force

From November 2025, identity verification will become mandatory for all company directors and Persons of Significant Control (PSCs), as part of Companies House’s efforts to improve corporate transparency and reduce fraud.

Many directors may have already received communications from Companies House outlining upcoming changes. These new rules are part of broader reforms aimed at strengthening the integrity of the UK company register.

What’s Changing?

Under the new rules, all company directors and PSCs will be required to verify their identity with Companies House. This process will apply whether an individual is involved with a single company or multiple businesses.

Once verified, individuals will receive a unique identifier code (UID), which must then be used in all future dealings with Companies House. Directors will also need to inform all their associated companies of their UID.

Key Dates to Note:

  • From 18 November 2025, identity verification will be required:
    • Before the filing of any confirmation statement by existing directors and PSCs.
    • When appointing a new director or PSC.
    • When incorporating a new company.

Important Clarification:

It is not current policy for Davies Tracey to verify identities on behalf of directors or Persons of Significant Control (PSCs). Directors must complete this process themselves via the official Companies House platform.
